Your thermometer is a precision piece of equipment and although is quite robust, it must be treated with care. The following pointers will help ensure that your rivertherm will give you accurate temperature readings for years to come. The thermometer will withstand a certain amount of water, but it is not waterproof and should not be submersed if at all possible.

The Battery.

battery compartmentOpen the battery compartment at the rear of the instrument by removing the cover. After removing the cover, the blue gasket will pop out. Remove the 2 AAA batteries and replace them with new. It is important the gasket is then replaced correctly as this prevents water from getting into the battery compartment. Then replace the cover making sure it has a tight seal. Press the on/off button for 2 seconds and the display should appear on the LCD screen. A reading should then be shown in the display on the front of the instrument.
When the batteries are getting low, a low battery indicator will appear on the screen.

The Weight

the weightThe instrument is provided with a half ounce weight to keep the probe stable in the water. This should suffice for most situations, but the swivel-snap system used by rivertherm allows the weight to be altered quickly and easily using standard Arlesley bombs. If greater weight is required, on a fast flowing river for example, simply unclip the clasp, and either replace the weight with a heavier one or add further weights.

Switching between Air and Water readings.

This thermometer will read both air and water temperatures. To switch between the two, press the button on the front to the desired setting. The screen will display "Air" or "Water" showing which reading you have selected. Allow a few seconds for the reading to settle down before viewing the correct temperature.

The Cable

cable storeTo preserve the cable and maintain the accuracy of the readings, the cable should be stored as it was bought. The winder is provided to prevent knots or kinks in the cable as this will deteriorate its functionality. Please ensure you use the winder to store the cable at all times.

The Clip

the clipThe clip has been designed so that the thermometer can be clipped to your keepnet, side tray, bank sticks or a variety of other accessories. It is important that excess force isn't used on the clip. Always open the clip before placing or removing the thermometer from any accessory.
The clip also has a 360 degree rotation on it, enabling you to manover the thermometer into a position that is suitable for you while you fish.

The Clock

clock settingsThe clock can be set by holding the clock button down. Once the clock starts flashing you can use the up and down arrows on the left of the pad to set the time. Press the clock button again to move to the next part of the time to be set. Once the clock has the correct time, leave it for a few seconds and it will set itself.

The Backlight
backlight
The backlight comes on for 10 seconds once the 'bulb' symbol is pressed on the keypad. The large LCD screen is illuminated with a blue neon glow which makes viewing the screen easy and clear. This is especially useful for night anglers or those who like an early start or late finish.

If you totally immerse your thermometer in water

If you immerse your thermometer in water, immediately remove the battery cover and remove the batteries. Empty any water still in the thermometer and put in a warm place to dry out ( window sill or airing cupboard). After a day or so replace batteries and see if the unit works.
